The Pearls of Power Foundation, Incorporated, is the philanthropic arm of Delta Delta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. The purpose of this Foundation is to cultivate and encourage, through funding, high scholastic achievement, to study and help alleviate problems concerning the African American community in order to improve the socioeconomic status of the disadvantaged, and to fund projects that are of service to the community.
At the June, 2014 chapter meeting, in her President’s report, Soror Courtney Robinson asked for the chapter’s permission to move forward with the work of establishing a foundation, which included appointing members to serve on the inaugural Board of Directors. Soror Courtney gave the names of the proposed appointees and a motion was properly made, seconded, voted upon and approved by the chapter.

Chapters within Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® have established non-profit 501(c) 3 organizations in the form of public charities to enhance their ability to provide quality programs of service in the communities that they serve.
The Foundation is exempt from federal income tax under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 501(c) (3). This means that donors can deduct contributions they make to the Foundation. It also enables the Foundation to receive tax-deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts. Organizations exempt under 501(c) (3) are further classified as either public charities or private foundations. The Pearls of Power Foundation is classified as a public charity. r.
Foundation membership is open to any active member of the chapter who wishes to be a member of the Foundation. Only active members of Delta Delta Omega chapter are eligible to be members of the Foundation.
The Foundation is a separate entity from the chapter. Foundation members have voting privileges in all matters regarding the Foundation.
Active members of Delta Delta Omega chapter may join the Foundation for the current year through the end of February each year. Membership runs from January through December each year.
Governing authorities include local, state and federal laws. In addition, chapters that have foundations or established related incorporated entities or not-for-profit organizations must comply with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Compliance Guidelines for Chapters with Foundations, Incorporated Entities or Not for Profit Organizations (Rev. November, 2016), and all IRS, federal, state and local guidelines governing such entities.
